IELTS Preparation Guide for Pakistani Students
IELTS is required for most scholarships abroad. Most universities require band 6.0 to 6.5. This guide will help you score 7+ band with focused preparation.
What is IELTS?
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) tests your English in 4 sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Total time is about 3 hours. Most scholarships accept IELTS Academic.
Section-wise Preparation
Listening (Score 7+)
- Practice with British Council official materials
- Listen to BBC podcasts daily
- Practice with Cambridge IELTS books (1-17)
- Focus on note-taking speed
Reading (Score 7+)
- Read English newspapers daily (Dawn, The News)
- Practice skimming and scanning technique
- Time management: 20 minutes per passage
- Learn academic vocabulary
Writing (Score 7+)
- Task 1: Describe graphs/charts in 150 words
- Task 2: Write essay in 250 words
- Learn essay structures and linking words
- Practice writing every day
Speaking (Score 7+)
- Speak English with friends every day
- Record yourself and check pronunciation
- Practice Part 2 cue cards
- Do not memorize β speak naturally
Timeline: 3 Month Preparation Plan
- Month 1: Learn all four sections, buy Cambridge IELTS books
- Month 2: Take 2 mock tests per week, fix weak areas
- Month 3: Daily mock tests, speaking practice, vocabulary building
